In 2009, Hoarsebox embarked on two highly successful US mini-tours promoting their EP Cuckooland, selling out well-known club circuit venues in New York such as Arlene’s Grocery and the Mercury Lounge. As an indicator of how sought-after the band are becoming, Hoarsebox were also featured as Artist to Watch by Clear Channel (the world largest radio station owner) on their global website for the entire month of April 2009.
Plans were finalized last Autumn with world renowned producer Dennis Herring to work with Hoarsebox on their debut album scheduled for release this summer. Herring, who has produced seminal albums from bands such as Modest Mouse, The Hives and Counting Crows to solo artists such as Elvis Costello, works from his studio in Mississippi where the band have already begun working with him on pre-production and where recording itself for the album has just commenced.
In addition to their activity in the US, 2009 also saw Hoarsebox record two new singles under the title Work Party with well-known Irish producer Ken McHugh (of Autamata fame) which will be released on 19 February.
Well known for their creative approach in reaching out to fans, Hoarsebox have recently become the first music act in the world to avail of digital media and internet company DV4's new iPhone application, ‘Band in the Hand.' The application, which is available as a free download to iPhone users, is aimed at helping Hoarsebox keep in touch with their fans. Currently, the app includes Hoarsebox news, songs, biographies and videos, and includes features such as ‘Ask The Band', which allows fans to send questions directly to the band. These questions are then answered by the band in a weekly video, which is released via the application.
In December 09, the band heard that come of their songs will be featured in the forthcoming second series of The Sundance Channel’s hugely popular show The Lazy Environmentalist in the US.
